James Downey, MD
Dr. Downey is the Chief of Urology at Northwest Hospital and Medical Center, in practice there since 1995. His major interests in urology include prostate cancer, stones, and men’s sexual health.
Dr. Downey grew up in Boston and earned his bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross and his M.D. from Tufts University. He did his surgical internship and flight medicine training in San Antonio, TX and then spent 4 years as a Flight Surgeon in the USAF stationed in the U.K. He returned to San Antonio to complete his urology residency. He was appointed chief of urology at Malcolm Grow, MD. After he completed his USAF obligation he moved to Seattle to join a private urology practice. He continued his military career in the Washington Army National Guard, with deployment to Iraq in 2005, until his retirement from the military in 2008 with the rank of Colonel (O6). His private practice, Urology Northwest, P.S., joined the U.W. in 2017.
